Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide ACELEPRYN-GR Syngenta

Description

Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide, manufactured by Syngenta Australia, controls season-long grub and caterpillar populations in Australian turf with a single granular application. Formulated with 2g/kg chlorantraniliprole, this Group 28 insecticide targets African Black Beetle, Argentinian Scarab, Billbugs, and caterpillars, including Cutworm, Sod Webworm, and Lawn Armyworm, across golf courses, sports grounds, and domestic lawns.

Acelepryn GR delivers up to six months’ protection at higher application rates without requiring poison scheduling. This no-spray formulation reduces PPE requirements for workers and offers minimal disruption to the community. The granule formulation provides flexible application in tight or difficult-to-access turf areas such as schools, passive parks, and around obstacles.

How does Acelepryn GR control turf insects?

Chlorantraniliprole disrupts calcium channels in insect muscle cells, causing paralysis and death. The active ingredient binds to receptors specific to insects, offering targeted control with minimal impact on non-target organisms.

Higher application rates (150kg/ha) deliver season-long control of up to six months. The granule formulation spreads easily through professional turf fertiliser spreaders and requires irrigation with approximately 6mm of water immediately after application for optimal activation.

When should I apply Acelepryn GR?

  • African Black Beetle and Argentinian Scarab: Apply from spring onwards for preventative control. Use higher rates (150kg/ha) for early season application (mid-September) where you need long residual protection, or in later season applications (mid-December onwards) when less sensitive mid-instar grubs populate the turf.
  • Argentine Stem Weevil and Billbugs: Apply when you first observe overwintered adults in early season (mid-September) to prevent damage and population build-up.
  • Caterpillars: Apply when you observe pests or damage. Delay irrigation and mowing for 24 hours after treatment for optimal curative control.

Can Acelepryn GR be used in schools and public spaces?

Yes. Acelepryn GR requires no poison scheduling, re-entry periods, or PPE requirements. This makes it ideal for schools, parks, and other high-traffic turf areas. The no-spray granular option offers ease of use and minimal disruption to community spaces.

What spreader settings should I use?

Application rates range from 75kg/ha to 150kg/ha. The product is SGN 150. Spreader settings vary by manufacturer and model. Calibrate equipment to achieve the desired application rate using wheel-to-wheel coverage. Settings are approximate and provide a starting point only.

Is Acelepryn GR safe for turf?

Yes. Field trials demonstrate high turf safety across warm-season and cool-season grasses. The product delivers low environmental impact and carries registered safety claims for use around dung beetle and earthworm populations when you follow label directions.

How quickly does Acelepryn GR start working?

The granular formulation activates through irrigation within hours of application. Protection builds as the active ingredient moves through the soil profile and feeding larvae take it up. Visible pest reduction typically occurs within days, with full season-long protection developing over the first weeks following treatment.

The Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide label does not list mole crickets as a controlled pest in turf. For effective registered control, suitable options include: Warden 100SC Insecticide, TermiForce 100SC Termiticide and Insecticide, Temprid 75 Residual Insecticide, MaxumPro 125 SC Insecticide, Scarlet Trio Advanced Insecticide, or BeetleBeta 125 SC Insecticide. Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide should be able to penetrate through the thatch, so dethatching is not necessary before application. Surefire Buffalo, Bindi & Broadleaf Weedkiller is one product that may be suitable for controlling weeds in Sapphire Buffalo grass. It targets a variety of broadleaf weeds and is safe for use on Buffalo grass. Please ensure you read the SDS and Label before purchase and use to confirm suitability for your situation & follow all manufacturer's guidelines. These are available under 'SDS and Technical' on the product page on our website.

Address the lawn grub issue first with Acelepryn to prevent further damage. Once the grubs are controlled, you can focus on treating the weeds with a suitable weedkiller.

Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide is known for being a pesticide with low environmental impact, is exempt from poison scheduling, and is an option with very low toxicity to non-target species, including birds. If you are still concerned, you could seek further advice from the manufacturer Syngenta Australia Pty Ltd (Phone: 1800 022 035), but we are not led to believe that birds that feed on insects/grubs have been exposed to Acelepryn.

Asked by Steve on June 7, 2024 11:51 am
    Answered by the admin

The need to 'wash in' Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide depends on the pest being targeted in the turf. For pests including African Black Beetle larvae, Argentinian Scarab, Argentine Stem Weevil larvae and Billbug larvae, a minimum irrigation or rainfall of 3mm is required after application. For optimal control, irrigate with approximately 6mm of water immediately after application. When targeting caterpillar pests such as Black Cutworm, Lawn Armyworm, and Sod Webworm, watering & irrigation should be delayed for 24 hours after application.

  11. Q When should Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide be applied?
Asked by Greg on June 6, 2024 3:42 pm
    A

Acelepryn Granular Turf Insecticide delivers excellent preventative performance. Its optimal results are achieved when applied early in the season when overwintering adult pests appear. Curative control with Acelepryn on pest outbreaks later in the season can be achieved using the higher recommended application rates. The exact timing of the application will depend on your location.

Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide is exempt from the poison schedule, minimising PPE (personal protection equipment) requirements when applying, and no re-entry periods exist. Once the Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide granules have been dissolved and leached into the turf's root zone, they will not pose any threat to humans or pets. Acelepryn is very toxic to aquatic life and should not be allowed to contaminate wetlands or watercourses. All you need to do is read the 'directions for use' carefully to ensure suitability to your situation.

The mixing rate for Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide varies from 750gm – 1.5kg per 100m2, depending on the targeted turf pest (refer to the directions for application rates).

    • If applied at 750gm/100m2, a 10kg bag will cover 1333m2.

For optimal control of turf pests when using Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide, irrigate with approximately 6 mm of water immediately after application (except where treating for caterpillars, when irrigation and mowing should be delayed for 24 hours).  Once the Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide granules have been dissolved and leached into the turf's root zone, they will not pose any threat to your dog.  Even if your dog did come in contact with the granules once spread, they would be dispersed so finely that they will not pose any threat to pets.

The withholding period (WHP) for Acelepryn GR Turf Insecticide says 'do not graze treated turf/lawn or feed turf/lawn clippings from any treated area to poultry or livestock.'  The WHP only applies to animals used for slaughter, collection, harvesting or use of the animal commodity for human consumption.  If the animals do not fall into this category it is safe to allow reentry back on the turf once the area has dried from irrigation or when the granules have leached into the soil by natural means.
